Synopsis

Currently developing advanced business intelligence solutions deploying Alteryx, Tableau, and DECIPHER™. Strategic initiatives include predictive analytics, logistics modeling, labor analysis, custom dashboard design, business intelligence reporting.

Background

Toyota is a Fortune 9 company. Founded August 28, 1937, Toyota today manufactures a diverse line-up of vehicles all over the globe. As an innovative leader, Toyota is well-known for its management philosophy and the world’s first mass-market hybrids.

Challenge

North American Parts Operation’s (NAPO), a cost center within Toyota Motor Sales, distributes parts to Toyota and Lexus Dealers throughout North America, Mexico, Puerto Rico and other small distributors. Toyota has a 2-tier distribution network with 500+ suppliers shipping to two-distribution centers (PC) that supply 13 regional distribution centers (PDC). Currently, NAPO employs over 1,400 hourly associates and spends over $100 million annually on labor.  Understanding Toyota’s labor can be challenging due to the number of variables or influencers such as shipping/receiving volume, hours used for productive (receiving vs shipping) vs non-productivity functions (meetings, storage, kaizens, vacations, LOA), productivity rate, and more. To manage Toyota’s labor variation or headcount shortfalls, Toyota used a combination of overtime and contingent. We engaged Competitive Analytics who will help us enhance our current tools, preferably using a combination of Alteryx and Tableau as well as utilizing existing internal data to help Toyota visualize current data as well as helping develop faster and better predictive analytics.

Solution

Only two business days after receiving raw data files, CA delivered a successful QPOC (Quick Proof of Concept) of fully functional and interactive KPI dashboards with forecasted KPIs versus existing budgets. CA now is collaborating with Toyota to deliver several customized business intelligence solutions.

Results

The QPOC (Quick Proof of Concept) provided overwhelming evidence to executive decision makers that CA was capable of delivering a significant amount of insight and innovative business intelligence within a two business day deadline.
